The purpose of this report is to understand how the information supports in the organization, management and its business process for review to CEO of the company.  I have selected on an IT Service Provider firm named Datacom.
1.1 HISTORY OF DATACOM
Datacom was founded in 1965 as Computer Bureau Ltd(CBL) in Christchurch by provide outsourced computer service for Christchurch firms, starting with a capital of 30,000 pounds or NZ60,000 at that time and the order for the first computer – an ICL 1902 with 64k memory – was placed at that time.
Datacom New Zealand Wide In 1971. By 1971 Datacom had integrated nationally through a holding company (today’s Datacom Group Ltd) to become established as the pre-eminent New Zealand owned IT company, with substantial computer centres .Turnover was in excess of $1m at the time of national amalgamation with a staff of over 100.
In 1976 A crucial development took place with the introduction of remote on line services, This drew Datacom beyond the limitations of a batch processing computer service into the new world of interactive computing.
Data communications network in operation in 1980. Datacom had installed its own data communications network, and had an extensive timesharing service operating throughout New Zealand.

In 1989 another well known New Zealand owned computer services company, CCL, was merged with Datacom bringing with it a facilities management division and a payroll division which were both integrated with Datacom’s existing businesses.

In 1994,   Datacom established in Australia Datacom crossed the Tasman in 1994 establishing a business in Sydney to support a call centre contract secured with Microsoft Australia. That operation, Datacom Connect, has a substantial presence in KL Malaysia now

Datacom Connect works to be the Regional Partner of Choice with the largest names in the global IT industry providing diagnostic technical support services to their clients and customers, a range of partner programs into the channel and reseller community, with a growing competency in the realm of lead generation and inside sales. Microsoft, CISCO, Hewlett Packard, IBM, Lenovo and Computer Associates are some of the businesses long standing clients.
From the late 1990’s Datacom began to leverage the facilities management and IT project competencies long established in New Zealand, into the Australian market place. Early success with P&O Services served as the catalyst to commission our first Data Centre in Australia.
In 2000, Datacom opens the Sydney Data Centre in St Leonards. Datacom opens Melbourne office in St Kilda Road in 2002. In year 2003, Datacom Customer Contact merged with connect Interactive to become “Datacom Connect”.

In 2006, Datacom Systems SA is launched.
Establishing an operation in Queensland via the purchase of NetOptions in September 2005 and then building on that base to expand into Townsville in 2007 with the acquisition of Agire Pty Ltd, a local IT services company. Creating start-up operations with local partners to secure a presence in South Australia in October 2006 and Western Australia in 2007.  3rd data centre in Sydney in September of 2007.
In 2009 Datacom Orbit Data Centre opened their $NZ40m Orbit Data Centre in Auckland. This investment in NZ's infrastructure provides customers with a high quality facility delivering world class levels of IT availability, reliability, resilience and security. Same year Datacom opens office in Manila, Philippines and Acquires Packet 1 Project in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia.

3.0 COULD COMPUTING AND ITS BUSINESS BENEFITS AND COSTS
3.1 Definition of Could
In the basic understanding for ‘Could’ its means the evolution of the internet. Instead of using application installed on your computer or saving data to your hard drive, your workings and storing of data kept on servers, tasks are performed in your browser using a console provided by the service.
 Below will explain on:-
  1. Cloud Computing
  2. Cloud Service
  3. Definition of SPI
  4. Four Deployment of model
  5. Public Cloud
  6. Private Cloud
  7. Hybrid Cloud
  8. Community Cloud
3.11 Cloud Computing
Cloud Computing defines by NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) has describing five essential characteristics, three cloud service models and four cloud deployment models. Could is design as a self service which is inclusive of on demand, Elastic, Measured, Multi-tenant, pay per use, cost-effective and it is efficient. The function allows user to access of data, software application and computer processing power through a ‘cloud’ , a group of many on demand resources, the task are assigned to a combination of connections, software and services accessed over a network. This network of servers and connections is collectively known as ‘the cloud.’

3.12 Cloud Service
Cloud service delivery is divided among three fundamental classifications referred as the “SPI Model,”

The Definition of Cloud Computing by NIST has been assumed to appear as shown in Appendix 3
3.13 Definition of SPI Model
  1. Software as a Service
  2. Platform as a Service
  3. Infrastructure  as a Service
References and electronic sources of information, viewed 3 Oct, 2011
 <http://searchcloudcomputing.techtarget.com/definition/SPI-model>
The Cloud Computing SPI Model has been assumed to appear as shown in Appendix 4
Cloud Service, Software as a Service is a model of software deployment where an application is hosted as a service provided to customers across the Internet. By eliminating the need to install and run the application on the customer’s own computer, SaaS (Software as a Service) alleviates the customer’s burden of software maintenance, ongoing operation, and support.eg, Customer Relational Management (CRM) software that is offered only as a service.
Other definition of Application included PaaS (Platform as a Service) that build to serve the entirely available, Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) it is made to deliver of computer infrastructure as a service. Rather than purchasing servers, software, data centre space or network equipment. Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) is “a web service that provides resizable compute capacity”.

3.2 Four Deployment Models
There are four deployment models for cloud services regardless of the service model utilized (SPI).
3.21 Public cloud refers to shared cloud services that are made available to a broad base of users. Although many organizations use public clouds for private business benefit, they don’t control how those cloud services are operated, accessed or secured. Popular examples of public clouds include Amazon EC2, Google Apps and Salesforce.com.
3.22 Private cloud describes an IT infrastructure in which a shared pool of computing resources—servers, networks, storage, applications and software services—can be rapidly provisioned, dynamically allocated and operated for the benefit of a single organization.
3.23 Hybrid Cloud represents composition of two or more cloud deployment models (private, community, or public) that remain unique but are bound together by uniform or proprietary technology that enables data and application portability.
3. 24 Community Cloud represents infrastructure is shared by several organizations and supports a specific community that has shared concerns. E.g. FDA compliance needs specific controls where audit requirements can’t be met by other deployment models.
The current Cloud Computing has been assumed to appear as shown in Appendix 3 & 4

3.25 The Benefit of Cloud Computing?
Conclusion of benefit of cloud computing as below:-
  • Cost savings, remote accessing and ease of availability.
  • Cloud computing offers almost unlimited computing power and collaboration at a massive scale for enterprises of all sizes.
  • Multi-tenancy enables sharing of resources and costs among a large pool.

  • Focus on core business Cloud computing, increases the profitability by improving resource utilization. Pooling resources into large clouds drives down costs and increases utilization by delivering resources only for as long as those resources are needed.
  • Cloud computing is particularly valuable to small and medium businesses, where effective and affordable IT tools are critical to helping them become more productive without spending lots of money on in-house resources and technical equipment. Gain access to latest technologies.
